ATI Training Seminars Camp
Anti-trafficking initiative
Mission statement:
Stop and prevent sexual victimization among those (girls and boys) in or just out of Ukrainian orphanages.
‣Our primary aim is eliminating the exploitation that many orphans may be faced with when they leave the orphanage.
‣We believe that preventative education and mentoring of orphans while they are in the orphanage and once they leave, is vital.
‣We believe the opportunity for orphans to acquire skills and have access to co-operative job placements, leading to future employment, is imperative.
‣We believe international awareness, initiative, and action in large and small measures by individuals, the community, social groups, and media can make a critical difference in the future of this new generation of young adults.
Initiatives:
‣Anti-Trafficking awareness and Life Skills sessions led by a trained facilitator have been introduced at the HUHTC Winter Camp in January of 2004, to be followed by further sessions at subsequent Summer and Winter Camps, with the goal of implementing an Anti-Trafficking Initiative (ATI) into the orphanage school curriculum.
‣In collaboration with the Canadian Society for International Health (CSIH) - HUHTC-ATI has initiated a grant proposal to the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) to address health and trafficking awareness in two pilot orphanage locations with the goal of implementing the programs nationally.
‣A proposal of a co-operative job placement initiative to provide orphans with job experience prior to leaving the orphanage.
‣A graduation information packet to be prepared for students graduating from the orphanage system, which will include information on the basics of the job search process (including resume writing and interviewing skills); understanding the risks of offers of work abroad; and basic contact information of Ukrainian consulates and women's organizations abroad for those who choose to leave the country.
‣A national coalition (Stop The Trafficking) has been formed which includes members of Help Us Help The Children, Ukrainian Canadian Civil Liberties Commission, Ukrainian Canadian Congress Committee for Justice, Ukrainian World Congress, Ukrainian Social Services, World Federation of Ukrainian Women's Organizations as well as motivated individuals.
‣Stop The Trafficking coalition is committed to stop the trafficking of women and children through the following action plan: awareness, education, prevention, intervention, and legislation. The coalition will function as a coordinating body to help focus the anti-trafficking work in progress.
‣Help Us Help the Children Anti-Trafficking Initiative a project of Children Of Chornobyl Canadian Fund believes that with the help of volunteers, supporters and benefactors we will be able to move forward on these issues and continue to evolve by finding ways to empower youth and prevent victimization.
